The CBA Professional Achievement Certification Program
There is only one way to join the AICBA and that is as a Certified Board Advisor (CBA).
The Institute’s certification is currently open to all individuals from all professions, industries, government agencies as well as levels of experience who are interested and committed to actively working towards the professionalization of the Corporate Board.
The CBA is a senior level professional designation designed for the accomplished professional with demonstrated educational and career accomplishments.
Your eligibility to be Certified is based on a closely held, confidential point system which is designed to balance:
In order to be certified, a candidate must have a minimum of four years professional experience and 100 CBA points. Points claimed for education must be from a recognized institution of higher learning.
Point Score Criteria
Academic Requirements: Generally, applicants for CBA certification must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. No specific field of study is required but the rigorous business and technical training are preferred. Advanced graduate and professional studies are highly advantageous.
Professional certifications and licenses applicable to specific and relevant functional, technical and industry expertise are highly advantageous. Areas of expertise are law, management consulting, investigations, accounting/auditing, finance, engineering, information technology, human resources, international markets, operations, sales, marketing, crisis communications, manufacturing, purchasing, investment banking, mergers & acquisitions, turn-around, bankruptcy administration, commercial banking, venture capital, money management, etc.
Professional, managerial and executive experience relevant to the above areas of certification and licensing exposure. AICBA considers a wide spectrum of experience from staff to executive level and from functional, industry, country, and governmental. In addition, general management exposure with Profit & Loss responsibility is highly favorable.
Board directorship and advisory experience of any type from corporate, not-for-profit, and association as well as governmental supervisory board is highly favorable.
Corporate crisis management exposure including financial, operational, legal, criminal, competitive, technology, health, environmental, regulatory, political, physical disaster, etc. are highly favorable.
Other significant leadership roles and/or accomplishments including business, technical, governmental, etc. are highly favorable. Specific areas of accomplishment may include start-ups, turn-arounds, reorganizations, new product/service development, humanitarian efforts, political activism, etc. are highly favorable.
